Lewis started smoking six years ago so that he could fit in with all his friends who were smoking. Smoking quickly became an expensive habit for Lewis and he was getting through a pack of cigarettes a day. Here he tells us about his quit journey with Yorkshire Smokefree.

I started smoking to fit in with my mates when I was 16, but after growing up a bit, I got sick of how much money my habit was costing me. I got in contact with Yorkshire Smokefree and found it easy to make my first appointment. I used a combination of patches and nicotine gum to help with cravings and I made sure to keep myself busy by working and being with my pals.

Since quitting, I feel fitter and don’t get out of breath when I’m riding my bike plus I’ve saved over £150! I plan on putting all that spare cash into driving lessons – I think it’s a much better use of my money. I’ve got my theory test coming up which I’m pretty nervous about, but I won’t be relying on cigarettes to distract myself anymore!

To anyone who has recently started smoking, my advice would be “not to give in to fit in”.
