Awareness and funding for bowel cancer is vitally important because it is widely known that every 15 minutes another patient is sadly diagnosed with bowel cancer, well over 42,000 people every year. A mind-boggling 7% of those cases are directly linked to regular, long term and frequent smoking habits, the number of severely affected patients increases depending on how many cigarettes are smoked per day.

Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) welcomes the introduction of the ban on child-friendly menthol cigarettes on 20th May as a decisive next step towards ending the tobacco epidemic.
Lockdown leads to increases in secondhand smoke exposure for children

Health campaigners are warning that new evidence suggests lockdown has left more children exposed to the harms of secondhand smoke. The warning comes today from Action on Smoking and Health (ASH), British Lung Foundation, Fresh and Breathe 2025  as evidence from the YouGov COVID tracker  shows that people who live in households that include children are 50% more likely to report being exposed to secondhand smoke since lockdown compared to those without children (10% compared with 6%).
